Dancing Invisible

Terms of Use for Classes, Jams and Intensives

These terms describe how Dancing the Invisible runs its programme and what both sides agree to when someone joins a session. They apply to weekly contemporary classes, contact improvisation jams, weekend intensives and online sessions offered in Toronto, Montreal and across Canada. Please read them before you enrol, and write to us if anything is unclear.

What we provide

Dancing the Invisible is a small dance organisation. We schedule weekly contemporary classes, contact improvisation jams and weekend intensives for adults, taught by working choreographers in rented studios with sprung floors. The programme covers floorwork, release technique, breath and weight transfer, partnering, somatic awareness and structured improvisation. Enrolment is available as a single drop-in session, a five-class card or a six-week block that ends in an informal showing for friends and local artists. No audition and no performance background are required. We do not guarantee a fixed teacher, studio or group size for any given date, because rooms and teaching schedules are arranged per block.

Your responsibilities as a participant

You take part voluntarily and at your own pace. You agree to arrive able to move, to tell the teacher about any injury, pregnancy, recent surgery or condition that affects how you fall, roll or carry weight, and to adjust or stop whenever you need to. Contact improvisation and partnering involve shared weight and physical contact, so you agree to respect the boundaries of other dancers, to ask before initiating contact where the exercise calls for it, and to accept a refusal without discussion. Disruptive, unsafe or disrespectful behaviour can end your participation in a session.

Health, risk and physical limits

Dance training carries a risk of strain, bruising and falls. We teach in studios with sprung floors and we structure sessions to build up gradually, but we cannot remove that risk and we do not provide medical supervision, diagnosis or treatment. You are responsible for deciding whether a movement is right for your body on a given day. If you are unsure whether the work suits your condition, speak with a qualified health professional before enrolling. In an emergency, teachers will seek local medical help, and any costs of treatment remain yours.

Enrolment, changes and cancellations

Places are limited by the size of the rented studio, so enrolment is confirmed only when we acknowledge it. If a session is cancelled by us, we offer a place in a comparable session or a credit toward another format. If you cancel your own place, tell us as early as you can so the spot can be passed on. Five-class cards are intended for the person who enrolled and are used across the scheduled classes; six-week blocks run as a continuous group, and joining late may not be possible once the block has started. Specific payment, refund and transfer details are confirmed in writing at the time of enrolment.

Filming, images and studio rules

Phones stay out of the movement space unless a teacher invites recording. We sometimes document sessions for our own programme notes, and we ask separately before using any material where you are recognisable. You agree not to photograph or record other participants without their consent. Studio rules set by the venue apply to everyone: appropriate footwear or bare feet as instructed, no street shoes on the floor, and respect for the space and the equipment in it.

Limits of our liability

To the extent permitted by law, Dancing the Invisible is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of personal belongings brought into a studio, or for injury resulting from a participant ignoring teacher instructions, concealing a relevant health condition or acting outside the agreed exercises. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Canadian law. This section does not replace any waiver or acknowledgement you sign before a session; where the two differ, the signed document governs the specific session.

Ending participation and changes to these terms

You may stop attending at any time. We may end or suspend participation if behaviour puts other dancers or the teaching at risk, or if these terms are repeatedly breached. We may update these terms to reflect changes in the programme, the studios we rent or the law; the version published on this page applies from the date it is posted. Questions about these terms, about enrolment or about a specific session can be sent to info@dancingtheinvisible.com or by phone at 380.293.7628. Our postal contact is Toronto, 553 Mac Radial.
